Plans have been announced for the sixtieth anniversary celebration of the acting school SCHAUSPIELSCHULE KRAUSS. During the entire year, the city of Vienna celebrates the school's long and rich history in a series of theatre performances, scenic and multimedia readings and musical entertainment.

The main celebration takes part on the 27th of September as a full-day event in the "Theater Spielraum" (Vienna), which is located in the formerly oldest continuously operated cinema of the world. A list of performances that were rehearsed in school will be presented during the day, followed by a party.

Lead for 20 years by owner and director MICHAELA KRAUSS, the SCHAUSPIELSCHULE KRAUSS is a drama school situated in the heart of Vienna, Austria. Founded in 1948 by her grandfather Helmuth Krauss, an actor from the city's famous Burgtheater, as an unbureaucratic, idealistic alternative to the state University for Music and Performing Arts, the Schauspielschule Krauss has been run on these principles ever since.

"The acting school is the only continuously operated, state officially recognized private acting school in Austria" says Michaela Krauss, "60 years ago, my grandfather started in this very place offering evening acting courses and for the last 20 years, I have grown this into a full day 3 year program". Among its most famous students of the first generation were Oskar Werner and Karl-Heinz Böhm, who both became world stars. Many successful careers of actors were established throughout the decades, including newcomer Manuel Rubey, who played the leading role in "Falco, the movie" (2008)."

Krauss adds "In its basic precepts, the school's curriculum follows the methods dictated by Stanislavski, as expressed in ideas by teachers such as Meisner, Spolin, Johnston, or Linklater. The decisive accent in these methods is placed on analysis, through which the windows to discovering and deepening an actor's insight into his own character and that of the role in hand may be opened.

The objective of the school is to develop in its students the ability to think and work independently, enabling them to swiftly adapt to the constantly changing demands of the profession. The three-year course ends with an examination that will furnish the graduate with a state-approved diploma for theatre, film, and television."

The Vienna Board of Education stated through their Press office: "We gladly congratulate the Schauspielschule Krauss on its 60-year-anniversary. The development of this school, which is located in the heart of Vienna as a culturally anchored benchmark, is shown by the successful results throughout the generations as for example actors like Oskar Werner, Karl-Heinz Böhm, Karlheinz Hackl, Dolores Schmidinger, Ulli Fessl, Sylvia Lukan and recently Manuel Rubey. The school, once initiated by Professor Helmuth Krauss is successfully run by his granddaughter Michaela Krauss for 20 years.

The Vienna Board of Education congratulates warmly on its round anniversary and wishes this famous Viennese cultural institution furthermore all the best."

In addition to its classes and performances, the SCHAUSPIELSCHULE KRAUSS offers to students and ex-students networking, mentoring and contacts at first hand throughout the cultural field in the German speaking area (theater, film, multimedia....) across the borders of Austria and enlarges the network throughout the years.

Celebrations for the anniversary include performances, readings and various scenes that were studied in daily lessons and among the highlights are Goethe's fable "Reineke Fuchs", "Hystericon" and Marber's "Closer" by the English Drama Class.

The yearlong series of events celebrating the SCHAUSPIELSCHULE KRAUSS will culminate in a full-day event with party on September 27th.

"I am so proud to be part of this school started by my grandfather" continued Michaela Krauss. "Every day I watch with pride as these students become better and better at their craft. Everyone here knows that the ART is the thing at our school, and I am proud of each and every student who has ever studied here. As with every cultural institution, and school focused on the arts, our students are dedicated to their craft. One doesn't chose a life in the arts, it chooses you."
