Horrocks, Ovenden, Jones Set For ANNIE GET YOUR GUN At The Young Vic October 3-January 2 2010

Annie Get Your Gun plays 3 October 2009 - 2 January 2010 at the Main House

Jane Horrocks, Julian Ovenden and multi prize-winning director Richard Jones unite to mount a major London revival of Irving Berlin's great hit song-fest Annie Get Your Gun this autumn at the Young Vic.

Annie Get Your Gun has one of the finest scores of any musical comedy: There's No Business Like Show Business, Doin' What Comes Naturally, the Judy Garland standard I Got Lost in his Arms, Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better and The Girl that I Marry. The book was written by Herbert and Dorothy Fields.

Popular favourite Jane Horrocks plays famed sharp-shooting Annie Oakley opposite velvet-voiced Julian Ovenden (Merrily we Roll Along, Marguerite) who plays her lover and rival ‘champion of the world' Frank Butler. The cast also includes Florence Andrews, Niall Ashdown, Buffy Davis, Alice Fern, Paul Iveson, Eric MacLennan, John Marquez, Amy Papa, Davina Perera, David Ricardo-Pearce, Liza Sadovy, Michael Taibi, Matt Turner, Chucky Venn and Adam Venus.

Jane Horrocks and Richard Jones make a much anticipated return to the Young Vic where they collaborated on a sell-out production of Brecht's The Good Soul of Szechuan in 2008.

The Young Vic recently won an Evening Standard Best Musical award for their production of Kurt Weill's Street Scene. Previous celebrated musical productions Simply Heavenly and an Olivier Award-winning The Magic Flute played to packed houses and transferred to the West End.

Iconic songwriter Irving Berlin (1888-1989) wrote over 1200 songs and scores to more than a dozen Broadway and Hollywood musicals, including White Christmas, Easter Parade, Alexander's Ragtime Band, Call Me Madam and, of course, Annie Get Your Gun.

BAFTA-nominated Jane Horrocks says "I had such a brilliant time at the Young Vic working with Richard Jones. I am thrilled to be returning in one of the finest female roles in the musical theatre - and looking forward to singing all those fabulous songs."

Jones who directed Titanic on Broadway and the London premiere of Into the Woods as well as countless operas in major houses all over Europe, has lined up a stellar production team: Ultz [design], Nicky Gillibrand [costumes], Jason Carr [arrangements], Phillipe Giradeau [choreography], Mimi Jordan Sherrin [lighting].

Jane Horrocks rose to fame singing the name part in the comedy Little Voice (stage/ screen) and starred as Sally Bowles in the Donmar's much-applauded production of Cabaret. Other highlights include Mike Leigh's film Life is Sweet and cult television show Absolutely Fabulous. Recent stage appearances include Absurd Person Singular (Garrick) followed by The Good Soul of Szechuan (YV) and most recently Aunt Dan and Lemon (Royal Court). Jane appears as singer Gracie Fields in the upcoming BBC4 biopic Gracie!.

Julian Ovenden played the leading role in the Donmar's hit production of Merrily We Roll Along where he also appeared in Grand Hotel. On Broadway he co-starred with Nathan Lane in Butley and most recently appeared in Marguerite (Haymarket). His television roles include leading parts in the award-winning The Forsythe Saga and BAFTA nominated mini-series Foyle's War.

Richard Jones is one of Europe's busiest and most innovative directors. His recent work includes Falstaff and Macbeth at Glyndebourne and Cav and Pag for ENO. His previous productions at the Young Vic are The Good Soul of Szechuan, Six Characters Looking for an Author and Hobson's Choice. He has won several Olivier Awards including for Hansel and Gretel, Too Clever by Half, Into the Woods (also Evening Standard Award), The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Royal Opera House), The Trojans and Pelleas and Melisande (ENO). He won the Evening Standard Award for The Illusion (Old Vic) and the South Bank Show award for The Queen of Spades (WNO).
