Greenwich Playhouse presents CASANOVA: The True Story A New Musical by Philip Godfrey, from May 14th through June 8th.
CASANOVA has been inspired by the real memoirs of the legendary lover and notorious seducer. This world premiere offers a snapshot of his adventurous and extraordinary life, as 11 actors and 3 musicians romp through the Europe of the 1700's bringing over 30 characters to the Greenwich Playhouse.
Casanova's exploits come to life in a series of scenes and vignettes highlighting his romantic conquests and scandalous schemes, plus the story of his one true love. Casanova bedded over 100 women from all walks of life - nuns to noblewomen. He used his charm to rub shoulders with the aristocracy, and travelled across Europe leaving a trail of scandals behind him. By pretending to be a magician and alchemist he cheated them out of fortunes before moving swiftly on. Casanova reunites the creative team behind last Summer's successful Coloured Lights: a Musical Celebration of Kander & Ebb, also at Greenwich Playhouse, and Jack the Ripper the Musical by
Ron Pember & Denis de Marne at Jermyn Street Theatre. Philip Godfrey is a Vivian Ellis Prize winner, whose music is regularly performed – recently at St Paul's Cathedral, Symphony Hall, Birmingham and on BBC Radio and Classic FM.
