BBC News is reporting this morning that up to 95 publicly funded theaters in England will offer free tickets to young adults (ages 18-25) as part of a new government funded £2.5m program.

At least one day per week from from 2009-2011 theaters across London tickets will be offered for free on a first come first serve basis. As part of the program theaters all over London (including The National Theatre) can sign up for the government funded plan. The plan came about because of a recent government study investigating how to engage young people in the arts. Originally suggested as only a one-week event, the details are still being ironed out.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport said, ""Arts and culture have the ability to enhance and change people's lives.Government is committed to increasing access to the arts for everyone. Free theatre follows on from free access to museums and, more recently, free swimming."
