Francis Cabrel Announces First Ever Royal Albert Hall Date Image

Multimillion-selling French singer-songwriter Francis Cabrel will play the Royal Albert Hall for the first time ever this October.

The 64-year-old performer, whose music mixes folk, jazz and blues, has sold more than 25 million records across an international career spanning 44 years, but this is the first time he's appeared at the iconic London venue.

Mehdi Aoustin-Sellami, Head of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall, said: "We're thrilled to welcome a true great of the international music scene to the Hall in October. Francis has captivated audiences for decades with his sensitive songwriting and superb live performances, and we can't wait for his debut appearance on the world's most famous stage."

Born in the South of France, Cabrel learnt English from the records of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young, whose folkier output indelibly influenced his style.

His subsequent, visionary musical output includes 13 studio albums, six live records and a greatest hits compilation, which have sold in excess of 25 million units. In the process, he changed the face of French pop music culture forever with songs including 'Je l'aime à mourir', 'La corrida', 'Petite Marie', 'Je t'aimais, je t'aime, je t'aimerai', 'L'encre de tes yeux' and 'Sarbacane'.

Cabrel's most recent album, 2015's 'In Extremis' reached number one in France, and has since gone three times platinum. Currently working on his follow-up, Francis Cabrel will perform his songs, old and new, in his first ever concert at the Hall.

The venue has welcomed a host of other European megastars in recent years, including Ligabue, Åge Aleksandersen and Guus Meeuwis.

Tickets for show on Tuesday 16 October, priced £30-£65, go on sale at 9am on Friday from www.royalalberthall.com
