Frances Ruffelle Stars in Title Role in PIAF at the Curve in Leicester, Beginning Today

Frances Ruffelle plays the title role in Pam Gems' Piaf at the Curve in Leicester from tonight, Feb. 22. Artistic Director Paul Kerryson helms the play about the singer Edith Piaf.

As described on the Curve's website, "Known to all as 'Piaf', the sparrow that rose from the streets of Paris to the international stage, Edith Gassion's life and career is as unique as her extraordinary singing voice. Over one hundred thousand people brought Paris to a standstill on the occasion of her untimely death 50 years ago in 1963.

"In this new production...Pam Gem's play brings to life and celebrates the story of one of France's greatest cultural icons. From street performer to worldwide fame, and including some of Piaf's greatest songs, such as La Vie en Rose, Mon Dieu, Hymne d'amour and Non, Je Ne Regrette , this mesmerising tale explores the sensational highs and lows of this enigmatic and world renowned artist who is revered and much loved to this day."

Ruffelle was Les Miserables' original 'Eponine' on the West End, and is featured in the cast of Tom Hooper's upcoming film adaptation of the musical. Ruffelle has also appeared on the West End in Children of Eden, Apples, Mack & Mabel, Starlight Express and more.
