With the musical audacity of early Elton John, the acerbic humour of Chelsea Handler and the narrative grit of Gus Van Sant, American recording artist Ezra Axelrod will launch his debut album, Songs from the American Motel, with a month-long West End residency at Leicester Square Theatre.
In Songs from the American Motel, Ezra will bring his dynamic album to life with a live show that fuses his unique brand of rock with theatre and stand-up comedy. Based on true events, Songs from the American Motel will take audiences on a journey through the 25-year-old artist’s outrageous life, from his childhood in the backwoods of the Wild West, through a picaresque adolescence in Latin America, to his new home in London’s Soho.
Featuring lust, love, heartbreak, conflict, adventure and reconciliation, Songs from the American Motel leaves no stone unturned, inviting audiences to “check in” to an intimate space where anything goes, jam-packed with catchy tunes, side-splitting anecdotes, and touching sincerity.
Ezra describes the show and album as an ‘international block party’: “It fuses a theatrical rock style with my American Western roots, classical upbringing and love for gritty story-telling. From the get-go Songs from the American Motel takes off on all sorts of adventures and runs the gamut of emotions from comical to heartbreaking to reaffirming. In a culture that thrives on artifice, I wanted to step back and tell a raw, authentic side to my generation’s story, something that reflects the very real experiences that we all share. I think this production allows me to communicate candidly with audiences and to provoke a genuine conversation through music.”
Ezra is thrilled to be launching Songs from the American Motel as part of LGBT History Month.
