The English National Ballet celebrates Christmas at the Coliseum and its 60th Birthday year in style with a sumptuous new production of The Nutcracker, choreographed by Artistic Director Wayne Eagling followed by a revival of Rudolf Nureyev's award-winning production of Romeo & Juliet.

Wayne Eagling, English National Ballet's Artistic Director will create a new Nutcracker production for English National Ballet to be given its World Premiere in December 2010 at the London Coliseum.

Following Eagling's new production of The Nutcracker, comes a revival of Nureyev's much-loved production of Romeo & Juliet, revived by Patricia Ruanne who danced the role of Juliet when Nureyev first created the production.

English National Ballet's residency at the London Coliseum puts the Company in the heart of the West End throughout the holiday season and promises London audiences a feast of ballet for Christmas 2010. The productions are supported by Sky Arts, who are season sponsor of English National Ballet.

Wayne Eagling's The Nutcracker This will be English National Ballet's 10th production of The Nutcracker since it performed its first full length Nutcracker at the Stoll Theatre in its founding year 1950.. English National Ballet has performed The Nutcracker every single Christmas since then.

Eagling's new ballet is a traditional retelling of the story set in atmospheric Edwardian London. This classic Christmas tale tells the story of Clara and her Nutcracker doll as they journey through the Land of Snow onto the extraordinary lands beyond, under the spell of the magician Drosselmeyer. The gallant Nutcracker Prince steers the girl Clara through her dreams, and as Big Ben strikes 12 she is transformed into a ballerina and taken on a mysterious and breathtaking journey, but along the way her adventures are blighted by the wicked Mouse King.

A world of Edwardian elegance will be designed by Peter Farmer bringing to life the eternally popular Tchaikovsky score that features the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and many other familiar favourites. Farmer has most recently designed Derek Deane's Swan Lake for the Company.

To add extra sparkle to this production English National Ballet is working with Swarovski who are crystallizing both costumes and sets. This will be the fourth English National Ballet production supported by Swarovski, following The Snow Queen in 2007, Strictly Gershwin in 2009 and Cinderella in 2010.
