For the first time in 25 years, Emma Thompson is returning to the London stage. According to The Daily Mail, she will be playing the role of Mrs. Lovett, alongside Bryn Terfel, in the English National Opera's production of Sweeney Todd.

Thompson is an Oscar winning actress. She hasEarlier this year, she played Mrs. Lovett the New York Philharmonic at the Lincoln Centre's Avery Fisher Hall. The production was a major success- even Sondheim was full of praise. About Thompson and her fellow lead, he stated, "They were thrilling. I am delighted with Emma and Bryn and the company."
Set in Victorian London, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street tells the story of the eponymous barber who seeks vengeance on what he sees as a merciless world by murdering his customers and, with the help of his landlady, the romantically inclined Mrs. Lovett, bakes their bodies into meat pies, which are fed to London's avid and unknowing populace. Sondheim's score pays homage to the music of Hollywood composer Bernard Hermann. Highlights include "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd," "Not While I'm Around," "A Little Priest," and "Pretty Women."
