ENO today announces, owing to public demand, the addition of 2 extra performances of Robert Carsen's acclaimed staging of Candide. The additional performances are on Wednesday July 2 and Friday July 11 at 7.15pm. The full list of dates is below.

This co-production, part of ENO's 2007/8 Sky Arts Season, has played to enormous success at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris and Teatro alla Scala Milan, and opens at the London Coliseum on Monday June 23rd 2008 (Press Night Wednesday June 25th).

As previously announced, the American soprano Anna Christy will sing the role of Cunegonde in Robert Carsen's award-winning production. Ms Christy was the first to sing the role in this production at its Paris premiere (December 2006), and in its La Scala production in 2006/07, earning rave reviews.

Making her London opera debut in this production, Ms. Breckenridge is a regular guest artist with San Francisco Opera and recently made her European debut with Prague State Opera in the role of Cunegonde.

Rumon Gamba conducts Robert Carsen's production. The sets are by Michael Levine (Anthony Minghella's Olivier Award-winning Madam Butterfly) with costumes by Buki Shiff and lighting by Robert Carsen & Peter Van Praet. The chorography is by Tony® Award-winner Rob Ashford (Parade, Evita, Guys & Dolls), making his ENO debut.
