The Manchester Shakespeare Company's 'Desperate Measures'
at The Three Minute Theatre, Manchester, October 23-26th 2013.
For their debut production the Manchester Shakespeare Company present a full length adaptation of 'Measure For Measure'. Formed by the Company behind the successful 3MT Venue, TMSC is dedicated to producing modern, relevant adaptations of Shakespeare's works set in the cultural landscape of the North West of England, embracing the talents of local writers, actors and directors.
'Desperate Measures' is set in the City State of Mancia in the not too distant future. The streets are dark and lawless, the jails are full and the Police Force reduced to one lonely Constable. The hapless Mayor, David Vincent, has more pressure than he can handle, so he hatches a plan to let his keen Coalition Deputy, the ambitious and ruthless Nicky Angelo, take over the reins of power for a while: with disastrous, disturbing and hilarious results.
Irreverently adapted for TMSC by John Topliff and Hannah Ellis and directed by Gina T Frost, this darkly comic tale of power and lust follows hot shot lawyer Izzy Aguecheek as she battles to save her brother Claude from the ruthless clutches of the State. But in a dangerous world of disguises, sin and double cross, who can she trust?
October 23-26th 2013. The Three Minute Theatre, Oldham Street, Manchester, M1 1JG.
