Damian Lewis to Lead AMERICAN BUFFALO in the West End This Spring

The Daily Mail writes that HOMELAND's Damian Lewis will return to the West End in David Mamet's AMERICAN BUFFALO this spring. The production, helmed by Daniel Evans, will run at Wyndham's Theatre from April 16, with a closing date set for June 27, 2015.

"I wanted to get back to the stage, but I didn't want to do it unless it was a great play," Lewis told the Mail, describing AMERICAN BUFFALO as a "tragic tale for our times." He added that the main characters in the play are "scrabbling for their personal health, mental health, and pride. And I think that's a common experience for a lot of people at the moment who are searching for ways to scratch a living."

The play last graced London in 2000. AMERICAN BUFFALO, which follows a trio of would-be burglars with characteristic Mamet-style dialogue, opened on Broadway in 1977 and was nominated for two Tony Awards. It's seen three Broadway revivals since and was also adapted for the big screen in 1996.

Lewis last appeared on the London stage opposite Keira Knightley in The Misanthrope. The actor also starred on Broadway in Hamlet in the mid-'90s. He will next be seen in the TV adaptation of Wolf Hall as 'Henry VIII' and in Showtime's new pilot Billions, as well as the films Queen of the Desert, Our Kind of Traitor, Bill and the TV mini-series To Appomattox.
