The musical version of Helen Fielding's popular novel, 'Bridget Jones's Diary,' is being workshopped with thoughts of a possible West End production, the Daily Mail reports today. Fielding is working with British recording artist Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin on the musical's score and lyrics and is working on the book with assistance from Julian Webber. Stephen Daldry, the director of BILLY ELLIOT, will direct the workshop alongside Webber and choreographer Peter Darling; Working Title will produce.
The reading will feature actress SheriDan Smith, current star of London's LEGALLY BLONDE, as Bridget Jones. Other actors will include Bertie Carvel (Mark Darcy), Julian Ovendon (Daniel Cleaver), Marilyn Cutts (Bridget's Mother), Billy Boyle (Bridget's Father), Tiffany Graves, Cassidy Johnson, Richard Frame, and Julie Legrande.
'Bridget Jones's Diary' follows a year in the life of Bridget Jones, a British single woman in her thirties who writes comically about her troubles, many of which involve her love life.
Assuming a successful reading, BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY: THE MUSICAL will most likely open in the West End in the fall of 2011 or in 2012.
