London's DIRTY DANCING - The Classic Story on Stage, which has been playing at the Aldwych Theatre since 2006, closes today, July 9th.
It was also announced that DIRTY DANCING will play its first UK tour, due to high demand for performances in neighboring cities.
"We have enjoyed a truly wonderful five years in London and we are very excited to be taking Dirty Dancing out on the road across the UK later this year," the producers said in a statement."It has been an absolute pleasure to bring this much-loved and iconic story to life on stage night after night, and we want to thank our tremendous cast and company for making Dirty Dancing such a huge success in London."
The touring production will kick start in September 2011, first hitting the Bristol Hippodrome (1 September - 8 October), followed by Glasgow's Kings Theatre (19 October - 12 November), Manchester's Palace Theatre (22 November - 7 January 2012), Dublin's Grand Canal Theatre (17 January - 25 February), Aberdeen's His Majesty's Theatre (6 March - 31 March), Southampton's Mayflower (3 April - 28 April) and Milton's Keynes Theatre (1 May - 26 May). Casting details have not yet been announced for the tour.
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage, is based upon the 1987 film. It is a coming of age love story about Johnny Castle and Frances 'Baby' Houseman, two talented dancers who unexpectedly meet during Baby's family vacation in New York's Catskill Mountains. Johnny, the resort's dance instructor, takes Baby under his wind, making her his leading lady and against all odds, they fall in love, learning life-changing lessons along the way.
