Corn Exchange Newbury Becomes Home To Lost Dog Dance Company, Presents SALVAGE January 28

Corn Exchange Newbury is to become home to one of the UK's most exciting dance companies, Lost Dog, commissioning and producing their new work, Salvage which will be premiered on Thursday 28 January before a short tour of the South East.

Employing the company's trademark visual and physical storytelling style combined with a subtle narrative the piece draws on the legend of the Fisher King, or the Wounded King, of Arthurian legend whose land suffers when he is injured, and explores our personal relationship with the environment. Salvage will be the largest work created by Lost Dog to date, and also the largest scale production from the Corn Exchange. It also represents the first major project to be seeded by the Corn Exchange's artists' development programme, Evolve.

Salvage has been created by Lost Dog's Artistic Directors, Ben Duke and Raquel Meseguer. The script is by Stephen Brown who scripted Filter Theatre's sell-out hit Faster (BAC, London / Lyric Studio, London / UK tour / Frankfurt / 59E59 Theater, New York). His play Future Me premiered at Theatre503 in London in June 2007 to wide acclaim and had its US premiere in Berkeley, in April 2008. It is currently on tour in the UK. Stephen is currently working on two commissions: an original script for the National Theatre in London and an adaptation of Rory Stewart's bestselling memoir Occupational Hazards.

Design for Salvage is by Will Duke, whose work focuses on the man made urban environment. Music has been composed and performed by Jamie McCarthy. Jamie studied music with the composer Gavin Bryars and went on to perform in Bryars' ensemble. He co-founded and co-directed the music-led multi-media ensemble HUB and has composed scores for theatre, dance, film, radio and television. Until recently he was also Head of Music at London Contemporary Dance School at the Place. Recent collaborations include work with choreographers Sue MacLennan, Rick Nodine and Andrea Buckley. Previous projects with Lost Dog include Hungry Ghosts and The Rain Parade.
In addition to the commission and production of the new piece, Lost Dog will also become resident artists of the Corn Exchange, moving from London to the South East region. The move has been facilitated by the Corn Exchange commission and the residency will include a wide range of opportunities for schools, dancers and community organisations in Newbury and West Berkshire to get involved with the project and work with the company. Lost Dog is currently creating a new piece with Scottish Dance Theatre
