Variety is reporting that Dominic Cooper has been confirmed to appear in "Phedre" at the National Theater in London, playing opposite Helen Mirren in the title role.

Cooper will portray Hippolytus in Jean Racine's 1677 play, based on the Greek myth about a queen who lusts after her stepson .

Dominic Cooper, last seen on screen on "The Duchess" and mega hit "Mamma Mia!" returns to the National after stints in shows including "His Dark Materials" and "The History Boys." Both were directed by National A.D. Nicholas Hytner, who also helms "Phedre."

The production, also starring Margaret Tyzack, is scheduled to open in June at the Lyttleton Theater, with exact dates to be determined.
