Centre Stage London opens a new musical adaptation of Aristophanes' Lysistrata tonight, making this the very first brand new musical adaptation they've performed in their 51 year history!
Chair Alexis Rose says, "Today is a special day in Centre Stage history as we bring an entirely new musical adaptation of 'Lysistrata' to the Bridewell Theatre stage for the first time. It is even more exciting that this work was written for us by one of our own members, Ellie Cahill, with fresh new musical arrangements by Max Fagandini. To be able to give our members a platform for their talents and our audiences the opportunity to experience new work makes us very proud."
Lysistrata is a very funny, naughty piece of theatre. Updated to 1940s, wartime London this new adaptation features some wonderful wartime songs, with some jaunty twists and some jazz standards as you've never heard them before!
Join Lysistrata as she gathers women around her from all walks of life, they have one aim; Peace. How will they achieve this? The women plan to force the men to sign a Peace Treaty by refusing to have sex with them until they do!
That's by no means to say they won't make things as hard as possible to ensure they succeed; they will be teasing, they will be tempting but most importantly they will be working together to end the war.In this original (and very naughty) battle of the sexes only one thing is sure: all is bare in love and war.
