THRENODY FOR THE SKY CHILDREN, written and performed by Jack Dean transforms the Carriageworks Theatre studio this month into a small dark corner of a frighteningly transformed Britain.

In a town in the middle of nowhere, in the attic of his parents' house, a man convinced he was born with wings flees from the chaos outside and picks through his confused past.

Threnody for the Sky Children is a darkly comic mythological thriller that draws inspiration from Ovid's epic poem Metamorphosisto tell a tale of love, loss, and shattered childhood dreams against the backdrop of a highly unusual apocalypse.

Jack Dean is a Yorkshire-based performer who has carried his love of verse to many places, including the Bowery Poetry Club in New York, Latitude Festival, the Radio 4 National Poetry Slam and a male beauty contest in Hackney. He likes to take the hip hop medium he grew up with, go out with it, get it drunk and push it down the high street in a shopping trolley full of fireworks at4am. Jack won an Ideastap Innovators award in 2012 and was Apples and Snakes' Poet of the Month in October 2013. His debut collection, Poems For Grown Up Children, was published by Burning Eye Books in 2013.
