Five aspiring theatre technicians have been named as this year's recipients of the 'Golden Ticket' week-long paid work placements on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the hit Olivier Award-winning musical, directed by Sam Mendes.
Shortlisted from hundreds of applicants and following a demanding assessment day at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, they will each spend time working alongside the production's highly-experienced backstage team, in the lighting, sound, automation, wardrobe, wigs, make-up and stage management departments.
At the end of the week, the most promising candidate will be rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime eight-week paid placement, as a production intern on the show.
The five 'Golden Ticket' winners are Amelia Butcher from South Ealing, London, Emily Bagshaw from Chester, Nicola Tapsell and Rachel Hopper from Herne and Cranbrook in Kent, and Rebecca Lewis from Monmouth, Monmouthshire.
The 'Golden Ticket' placements are part of Warner Bros. Creative Talent, a programme of investment in skills and training for the UK creative industries.
Josh Berger CBE, President & Managing Director, Warner Bros. UK and Ireland said: "This is an incredible opportunity to work backstage on one of the largest productions in the West End. Last year's lucky recipients are already taking their first steps into the industry and we are confident that these five talented people will be just as successful."
Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has quickly become one of the West End's most popular and successful stage musicals. It has broken multiple records at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where it has been seen by over 1.25 million people since it opened in June 2013. It is currently taking bookings until 4 June 2016.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Neal Street Productions and Langley Park Productions.
