Brand New Multi-Million Pound Not-For-Profit Arts Venue Launches Shows Next Week ImageStreatham Space Project (SSP) is an ambitious new multi-million pound community arts venue featuring a purpose built 120 seat auditorium, bar and functions space and a studio space.

A registered charity, SSP is designed and run by a team of 9 Streatham based performers, creatives and arts professionals aged 23-33 based in Streatham, overseen by a board of experienced trustees.

Built as part of a Section 106 Lambeth Council agreement, SSP secured a 25-year lease at a peppercorn rent for the new site, giving SSP the ability to take risks and support new theatre, comedy and music as well as young up-and-coming creatives from the local area and beyond.

The bar and studio spaces will also host exhibitions - with Streatham born architect and artist Tyrone Deans currently on show in the bar, and charity Mencap artists in the studio space. All proceeds of work sold from the latter will go direct to the charity to support their work with people with learning disabilities.

The opening season features a broad range of different performances, and is the starting point of a program that aims to respond to its audiences locally and across London with acts including:

MOBO-nominated soul songwriter Julia Biel "Julia Biel has a great voice. That is possibly the understatement of the year so far." Jazz in Europe
Fresh-faced country duo Ferris & Sylvester - "Alt Simon & Garfunkel" - The Guardian
Comedy, poetry and music featuring Jeremy Hardy and Selina Nwulu
Theatre from Vault Festival's People's Choice award-winner Stardust - featuring hand drawn animation (Winner, Vault Festival People's Choice Award)

This will be followed by a two-week comedy festival in July.

SSP is a venue that aims to bring London's diverse audiences together to see top quality performers in an intimate, neighborhood venue, bringing people into the building to meet, mix and get to know each other better.

In the words of SSP's Creative Director, Andy McKeane, "We want people to have that quality of connection you can only get with live performance - with the artists, and with each other. It's a place for people to come and see great things - together."

The venue is on Sternhold Avenue, London, SW2 4PA next to Streatham Hill Station, 10 mins on bus from Brixton Tube and 15 mins by rail from Victoria Station.
