Boundless Theatre Announces First Look At PARAKEET As Part Of Last Word Festival At The Roundhouse Image

As the annual festival of fearless storytelling, Roundhouse Last Worst Festival returns to the Roundhouse for two and a half weeks of bold performances from established and emerging spoken word artists. Boundless Theatre and Boom Shakalaka Productions will present new songs from Parakeet - a work in development by Brigitte Aphrodite, with music and additional lyrics by Quiet Boy, directed by Laura Keefe on June 28th.

Punk, feminist showgirl, strikes again! This will be a special and one off chance to see new material from Brigitte's new show - Parakeet, exploring punk and empathy and how a band of exotic birds could change the world. The gig will also be a chance to celebrate My Beautiful Black Dog, the live album. Expect visceral lyricism, big sounds and help us shape a new movement along the way.

Artistic Director of Boundless Theatre, Rob Drummer says: "Brigitte and Quiet Boy have made waves with their previous show My Beautiful Black Dog, directed by Laura Keefe and playing to packed audiences on a three-year tour of the UK. This new show, Parakeet proudly made in Margate and touring in 2019 is already shaping up to be a tour de force and one we at Boundless are excited to be co-producing with Boom Shakalaka Productions."

Gemma Cairney of Boom Shakalaka Productions says: "Brigitte's enigmatic performance talent, never leaves an audience disappointed. We are ecstatic to reveal new material!"

Brigitte Aphrodite is a punk, feminist showgirl, and poetical music performance artist who has a loyal following due to her approach to multidisciplinary art and social expression. In her former years she has toured her music with the likes of Kate Nash and Josie Long. Bri is most recently known for her critically acclaimed show - 'My Beautiful Black Dog' - a part gig, part theatre, modern day, punk musical exploring depression. The show sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe circuit, was featured on the BBC 10 O'clock News and in the Guardian and Elle magazine. Gathering momentum in 2015/16 the show went on to tour the UK and sell out dates at the Southbank Centre. Wellcome Trust funding was awarded to the 'MBBD movement' and a workshop, based on the show, its narrative and the language we use around mental health was developed and delivered in schools around the country.
