Following their production of ‘The Duchess of Malfi' last year, Lazarus Theatre Company
returns to the Blue Elephant Theatre and John Webster this November to stage the 17th century
playwright's Jacobean revenge tragedy, THE WHITE DEVIL, in A Contemporary Theatre style.
Featuring a 16-strong ensemble cast, director Ricky Dukes will use text, movement and music to
give the play a Lazarus makeover to create the decadence and debauchery of the Italian court.

The White Devil is a classic tale of love, jealousy, revenge and murder...Vittoria Corombona
(the white devil of the play), is married to Camillo Corombona, but consumed in a dangerous love
affair with Duke Bracciano, a powerful, self-serving nobleman, who is married to Lady Isabella.
Bracciano's lust for Vittoria sets off the tragic events of this play; separating from his wife so that
he can be with Vittoria, Bracciano plots to kill both Isabella and Camillo and unwittingly sets up
the terrible train of events that follow.

Director Ricky Dukes: "It's an absolute joy to be working on such a passionate, dark and epic
play, Webster's masterpiece has huge challenges, complexities beyond comprehension and yet
its enchanting story of love, passion and death is simple in its purity: it's refreshing and bold."
