Birmingham Repertory Theatre has today announced its Christmas production for 2014. Roald Dahl's enduringly popular children's book, The BFG, will be brought to life in a brand new staging.
This well-loved story of a dream-blowing, big friendly giant and little orphan Sophie in a land of child-eating giants will open at The REP from 26 November 2014 to 17 January 2015. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Monday 17 February.
When little Sophie is snatched out of her bed in the dead of night by the BFG, she fears the worst. His grisly neighbours, the Bloodbottler and the Fleshlumpeater, like nothing more than guzzling up human beans. But the BFG is a dream-maker and not a man-eater and he's about to take Sophie on a journey she never expected!
An undisputed national treasure and the world's favourite children's author, Roald Dahl has enchanted young minds for more than 30 years with stories that fire the imagination, bring dreams to life and release squeals of both terror and delight. The BFG is classic Dahl and this new production promises a stunning visual theatrical treat for audiences of all ages.
Adapted for the stage by David Wood, The BFG, will be directed by Teresa Ludovico who thrilled audiences with her 2013 staging of Phillip Pullman's I Was A Rat! Teresa is also known for her thrilling visual and physical productions of Beauty & The Beast, The Snow Queen and The Mermaid Princess.
