Bill Rosenfield's 46 BEACON to Make West End Debut This Spring

Making its West End debut, 46 Beacon, a coming-of-age and coming-out play set in 1970's America, arrives at Trafalgar Studios 2 for a limited season, running from 5 - 29 April 2017, with press night on 10 April, following a short run in 2015 at The Hope Theatre.

Written by Drama Desk and Richard Rodgers Award winner Bill Rosenfield, this memory play is directed by Alexander Lass and produced by Oli Sones and Ed Sinke. Full casting and further creative details for 46 Beacon to be announced in due course.

Bill Rosenfield said, "I couldn't be happier that a semi-autobiographical account of a special night in my life is opening in the West End. Ultimately the play came out of my need to express just how far and fast Gay politics had progressed, in a touching but, I hope, also humorous way, and I am really excited to bring it to a wider London audience".

The address is 46 Beacon. The place is 1970s Boston. Alan and Robert spend a balmy July evening hoping for a connection, emotional or physical? 46 Beacon charts their quest in Bill Rosenfield's fresh, funny and moving script.

Set within a theatrical hotel, Robert has invited Alan back to his room and although they are at different stages of their lives, they each have something the other yearns for. But are they willing to give it?

46 Beacon is the story of that night your life was forever changed.

Bill Rosenfield's (Author) is a transplanted American playwright now living permanently in the UK. His plays include 46 Beacon (Hope Theatre, London/Blank Theatre LA Living Room Series), True Fans (The Abbey, Orlando/Blank Theatre LA Living Room Series), Sunshine and Shadow (Blank Theatre LA, Living Room Series), Let Me (Asolo Theatre, Sarasota Florida, Unplugged Series) and the award-winning one act Bridal Terrorism (Samuel French). His highly acclaimed adaptation of Frank Loesser's The Most Happy Fella directed & choreographed by Casey Nicolaw was produced as part of the City Center Encores! Series in New York City. In addition to his playwriting activities for the past six years he has written the prestigious Drama Desk Awards Ceremony in New York. Prior to turning his attention to playwriting he had a career in the recording industry in New York as the executive producer of over 65 Original Cast Recordings beginning with the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins and ended approximately 20 years later with the award-laden revival of Hair garnering over 30 Grammy nominations in the process. Among the awards he has received are 2 Drama Desk Awards (1992 and 2002), and SDC Foundation Governor's Award, and a Richard Rodgers Award (2006).

Alexander Lass (Director) is an Anglo-American freelance director based in London. Directing credits include: Chips With Everything (Farrer Theatre), Giant Leap (Pleasance, Edinburgh), Young Bloods (RADA Festival), Scenes on the Sand (Arcola Tent), A Midsummer Night's Dream (LAMDA Summer School), and Skeletons (Orange Tree Theatre). Recently, Alex was Associate Director on Sean Mathias' production of No Man's Land (UK Tour and West End), starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart (Winner, Best Revival, Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2016). Previously as Associate Director: Confusions and Hero's Welcome (UK Tour, directed by Alan Ayckbourn), Holes (Arcola Tent) and Threeway (Invisible Dot). Assistant Director work includes: Oppenheimer (RSC Swan Theatre/Vaudeville), and London Wall (Mint Theater Company, New York City). Alex was one of Sam Walters' penultimate Trainee Directors at The Orange Tree Theatre. Alex is a graduate of the directing diploma course at LAMDA, during which he assisted directors including Phillip Breen, Tom Hunsinger, and Raz Shaw. Before LAMDA, Alex read History of Art at Downing College, Cambridge, where he was the inaugural recipient of the Judy C Petty Scholarship in Music and Theatre.

Oli Sones (Producer) began producing theatre in 2005, having started his career in TV production. His producing credits include musical theatre, plays, cabaret and comedy. London producing credits: A Chorus Line (London Palladium), 46 Beacon (The Hope Theatre), Dark Tourism (Park Theatre), The Donkey Show (Proud Camden) and associate producer on Taken at Midnight (Theatre Royal Haymarket). International producing credits: Chicago (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Cyprus); My Fair Lady (Singapore and Malaysia); Fame the Musical (Monaco); Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease and Evita (Ljubljana International Festival, Slovenia), The Sound of Music (Malaysia); A Chorus Line (Tel Aviv) and Hairspray (Malaysia, Singapore and Macau). Cabaret work includes Clare Burt: Now You Know (Metropolitan Rooms, New York) and Helen Lederer: WTF (St James Theatre).
