It's that time of the year again..the BroadwayWorld UK awards! While I am a Glasgow-based reviewer, I spend enough time in the West End to have formed a few strong opinions as to who is most deserving in their category this year.

The big winner for me this year has to be The Light Princess. I saw the production a couple of times at the National Theatre and has won my vote for Best Musical Direction; Lighting; Costume Design and Rosalie Craig as Best Leading Actress.

Although it didn't have a very long run, I really enjoyed the Trevor Nunn production of Fatal Attraction at Theatre Royal Haymarket earlier this year. I thought it was an excellent adaptation and I think that Kristin Davis deserves the award for Best Actress In A New Production of a Play.

Another new London production that I loved this year was Urinetown and I am so glad it got a West End transfer. The only disappointment is that Richard Fleeshman didn't remain in the cast as he is my choice for lead actor in a musical!

Outside of the West End I have voted for the RCS production of The Addams Family at this years Edinburgh Fringe for both Best Musical Direction and Best Scenic Design.

The category which I had most difficulty with was Theatrical Event of the Year. I was thrilled when Kristin Chenoweth announced "An Evening With" at the Royal Albert Hall and it was a very special night. We Will Rock You was one of the first musicals that I fell in love with and I was devastated when it closed so the last night at the Dominion was also a strong contender. However, my vote has to go to Kerry Ellis for her return to Wicked. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Wicked and I was absolutely thrilled to see my first (and favourite) Elphaba reprise the role. Wicked is also my pick for Best Long Running Show in the West End.
