Theatrical Event Of The Year

While I did see a number of the events nominated for Theatrical Event of the Year; Kerry Ellis at the London Palladium is the clear winner for me. Reviewed here it was a truly special night in an iconic venue. Although I was already quite the fan, I feel it was a night that would have been enjoyed by anyone with a love for musical theatre. Performing a range of songs from shows that she is known for along with movie medleys and what I would class as the single greatest moment for anyone who is a fan of the London production of Wicked- it really was an incredible evening!

Best New Musical in the West End

Again, I have seen almost all of the nominees in this category and it has been an excellent year for new productions in the West End but I feel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory deserves my vote the most. I have read a few reviews that have claimed that it "appeals to the masses", but I'm not sure why that would ever be viewed as a negative thing. Anything that gets people going to the theatre especially at a young age can only be a good thing. The sets are possibly the best I have ever seen in the West End and while I do agree with some of the critic's opinions that the music is not overly memorable after one viewing, I still enjoyed it. I have also voted Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Best Costume Design In A New Production Of A Musical.

Best Leading Actor in a New Production of a Musical West End

I'll confess that until the cast announcement for The Commitments I had never heard of Killian Donnelly. A pretty shameful admission after doing some research before the show and reading his extensive West End credits! I had quite high expectations for his performance and he both met and exceeded them!

Best Long Running West End Show

At the risk of being predictable, I voted for Wicked as the best long running West End show. While once again I have seen all of the nominees, Wicked is the show which is the most special for me. I also cast my vote for Gina Beck as Best Performance in a Long Running West End Show actress as I think she is currently doing a fantastic job as Glinda.
