Following the success of the previously released Lost West End comes the aptly named Lost West End 2 - of course! The albums, produced by Stage Door Records, are revisiting forgotten musical numbers from shows that sadly didn't enjoy a long run in London. Lost West End 2 features songs that date back to 1970, then ventures through successive years up until 2008.

There is certainly a wide variety of musical styles showcased, from the honky-tonk piano in the title track from Bordello, to the Latin vibes of "It's So Much Fun To Be Gay" from Murderous Instincts (which lasted a mere 12 performances). There is also a good balance struck between the big, lavish Broadway numbers such as "Winnie" from the show of the same name, against the more free-spirited and easy-listening tones of "Damsels In Distress" from After Shave and "More Than Earth" from the oldest production on the CD, Isabel's A Jezebel.

Some fabulous vocals can be heard - both from individual performers and collectively as an ensemble. Highlights include Hannah Waddingham in "The Man Behind The Mask" from Zorro and stunning balance between Michael Crawford and Cheryl Kennedy's voices in "Whatever Time There Is" from the 1979 production of Flowers From Algernon. The company of Imagine This performing its title number is the pivotal moment of the album whereby the music and vocals marry in perfect harmony. Damien Flood also shines on "Gentle Love" from the 1999 show Boyband.

Lost West End 2 is a delightful stroll down memory lane, which continues to surprise as it goes along. So many familiar numbers are featured that haven't been appreciated for some time. Stage Door Records are a great advocate of past musical theatre and do a wonderful job in promoting it.

Lost West End 2 is available now from www.stagedoorrecords.com or major stockists such as Amazon and HMV.
