With nine number one songs, forty-eight top 10 and seventy top 40 hits, Burt Bacharach is unequivocally one of the greats. Now hitting London's West End, 'Close To You' brings us a collection of his memorable back catalogue, re-mastered with love and soul. From 'Magic Moments' to 'Walk On By', this show serves classic love songs with joy and passion in abundance, guaranteed to make you smile.

Charismatically led by Kyle Riabko, the cast is formed by seven astounding talents, individual in look and sound but unified in skill. All actor musicians, all powerhouse vocals, there isn't a weak link in this musical chain and the energy they offer this material remains engaging throughout.

Taking a song-cycle form, the level of ability on stage quickly dismisses the lack of narrative and each song remains visually pleasing thanks to some expert design choices. Christine Jones and Brett J Banakis' set provides a playground of images and Tim Lutkin's lighting design creates some breathless moments, pairing beautifully with the music.

As well as leading the show, Riabko also conceived the idea, following this show from its grass roots. Equal parts talented and handsome, you can quite easily forget these songs aren't his and most of the heart-warming moments come from his charm. Standouts also include female-led 'I Say A Little Prayer For You' sang by the beautiful Stephanie McKeon and Anastacia McCleskey, a gut wrenching 'Don't Make Me Over' by the latter and a delightful 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' duetted by cute-as-a-button Greg Coulson and vocally soaring Renato Paris, securing him as one to watch.

Passion, heart and unassuming fun are all infectious at the Criterion. So 'Make It Easy On Yourself' and head on down 'Any Day Now'.
