BWW Interviews: Sierra Boggess, Talking About PHANTOM 25, LOVE NEVER DIES, And REBECCA!

Hi Sierra! Welcome back to BWW:UK. Sounds like you're a very busy lady at the moment...

Yes, there's lots going on - but that's good!

The last time we spoke, Love Never Dies was about to open. There was a lot of criticism before it opened, and a lot of re-writing and re-opening, but I think all in all it must have been a great experience for you - would that be fair?

I had one of the greatest experiences. With all that I got to learn, I guess in the end I couldn't really care less about any negativity!

And the last time we spoke, you talked about how exciting it was to play Christine ten years on. Was it strange going back to the younger Christine in the Phantom 25th Anniversary celebrations?

It was amazing, a real gift for an actor. Obviously I played Christine in Love Never Dies and had played her six years before in Vegas, so it's just revisiting someone with whom I have unfinished business, almost; someone I love so much. I felt I could bring more of the mature Christine to her - she starts off as a young girl and becomes a woman, and I felt I could play that more after continuing her journey. And of course I got to work with Ramin [Ramin Karimloo] again, so doing that show with my Phantom was wonderful.

Yes, you've worked with Ramin before, but Hadley Fraser, who played your Raoul in Phantom 25, has never done the show before...

That was so fun, watching him discover the role and the character, and finding it all alongside each other. He's a wonderful actor, and an amazing man. That made it really fun.

And prior to that, you've been back on Broadway in Master Class, which Tyne Daly is bringing over here to London soon.

That was a life-changing experience. Playing alongside Tyne Daly...she's the real deal. She's an amazing actress and person, a true leading lady. She taught me so much - had I not done the play before the 25th anniversary concert, I think I would have been more nervous about the cameras and so on, but thanks to her I felt confident telling the story and playing the play. London will embrace her.

Now you're off to start work on Rebecca, which we're hoping will head to the West End after a US launch.

We open in America in the spring of 2012. The creatives really believe in it and love it - and I want it to do everything that should happen for it. I'm so looking forward to getting started.
