Award-winning comedian Joe Bor who is bringing his touring show, "A Room with a Jew", to Outside The Box Comedy Club in West Molesey on April 17th.
10 years ago, Joe Bor won the award for Jewish Comedian of the Year. But in the interviewing years, a question has kept gnawing at Joe's brain - is he really Jewish enough to be deserving of the title?
Questioning his commitment to his religion and considering his Jewish upbringing versus his current predilection for pigs in blankets, Joe muses on his marriage to a non-Jewish wife and his fathering a half Jewish baby.
In this hilarious and thought provoking hour, Joe reminisces about his school days among the goyim and tells tales of his Jewish family; delving into tales about his domineering mother, embarrassing father and his whole family's pre-occupation with food.
Family is a constant source of comedy for Joe; his father's choice of swimming costume on a family holiday provides him with plenty of comedy fodder. Not to be outdone, a strong Jewish mother dominates Joe's life and anecdotes of her attitude to marriage, money and his career, fuel this comedic hour. With its recognisable and unique characteristics, the mother/son bond is one filled with equal warmth and frustration. Joe lovingly weaves through conversations between him and his mother, navigating the peaks and pitfalls of the relationship that many mother's and son's will be able to identify with.
Having an opinionated parent is all the more challenging when becoming a parent yourself and Joe shares stories of his struggles of coming to terms with parenthood and all the ammunition for a comedy show it provides including looking after his young child at a wedding and using a public toilet with said child in tow.
Joe is an incredibly talented observational comedian and is highly respected on the circuit. TV writing credits include Mock the Week and he has appeared DAVE and Channel 4. He regularly works at many of the top comedy clubs including Glee, 99 Club and The Comedy Store and has also been booked as tour support for Jack Whitehall, Kevin Bridges and Alistair McGowan.
