The London production of Avenue Q at the Noël Coward Theatre (formely the Albery Theatre) has scheduled a 'Midnight Matinee' for Monday 22nd January 2007. The performance will be a special event to raise funds for TheatreCares, the proceeds of which will be invaluable to people affected by HIV and AIDS. Beginning at 11:30pm, long after all of the other West End theatres have locked up for the night, the performance will run through midnight into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
TheatreCares is the UK equivilent to the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids campaign and works in partnership with Crusaid.
The London production of Avenue Q, the first new production outside of the United States and produced by Cameron Mackintosh, has won great critical acclaim from audiences, recently winning the 2006 Variety Club Award and being nominated for the 2007 Theatregoers' Choice Award for Best Ensemble Performance and Best New Musical. Public demand has caused the production to extend its performances to July 28th 2007, with this date also expected to extend soon.
The current cast includes Jon Robyns as 'Princeton' and 'Rod', Simon Lipkin as 'Nicky' and 'Trekkie Monster', Julie Atherton as 'Kate Monster' and 'Lucy The Slut', Giles Terera as 'Gary Coleman', Naoko Mori as 'Christmas Eve', Clare Foster as 'Mrs T.' and Sion Lloyd as 'Brian'. The cast also includes Luke Evans, Matthew J Henry, Gloria Onitiri, Jacqui Sanchez , Gabriel Vick and Yanle Zhong.
