Following its recent production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet at Jermyn Street Theatre, burgeoning young theatre company Antic Disposition returns to London for two nights only later this year to present a brand new staging of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Cochrane Theatre on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September 2008. It arrives in London following a summer season at seven outdoor locations in South West France.
When a handful of humans accidentally stumble into the magical realm of the frolicsome fairies, the stage is set for a night of comical confusion in the moonlit woods. Can true love combined with a little bit of magic conjure up a happy ending before the sun rises? One of Shakespeare's best-loved plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream combines madcap comedy, lyrical poetry and visual spectacle in an enchanting experience for the whole family.
Ami Sayers, who recently played Juliet in Antic Disposition's Romeo & Juliet, returns to play Hermia in a cast that also includes Andrew Venning, who played Benvolio in that production, as Puck, Austin Hardiman who played Feste in Antic Disposition's Twelfth Night as Lysander and Ben Bibbings who played Sebastian in Twelfth Night as Demetrius.
Produced by Antic Disposition, A Midsummer Night's Dream is directed by Ben Horslen and John Risebero with design by John Risebero, lighting design by Howard Hudson and music by James Burrows. Antic Disposition was founded in 2005 with the aim of presenting innovative, entertaining theatrical work from a variety of genres throughout Europe.
Each August the company produces Festival Shakespeare du Quercy, an annual celebration of the works of William Shakespeare which takes place in stunning open-air locations across South West France. For the 2005 Festival, Antic Disposition produced The Shakespeare Revue, which also toured the UK and enjoyed a London run at the New End Theatre. The company performed Romeo and Juliet in 2006 and Twelfth Night in 2007, both of which subsequently appeared at the Cochrane Theatre in central London.
