The Society of London Theatre, which celebrates its centenary this year, has recognized composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's outstanding contribution to the West End at the 32nd annual Laurence Olivier Awards.

Sir David Frost presented him with the Society's Special Award at a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.  This is his seventh Laurence Olivier Award, widely regarded as the most prestigious in London theatre.

The award also coincides with Andrew Lloyd Webber's 60th birthday, which falls on March 22.

The Society of London Theatre was founded in 1908 by Sir Charles Wyndham. It represents the producers, theatre owners and managers of the major commercial and grant-aided theatres in London's West End.
