The Daily Telegraph's "Spy" reports that Alicia Silverstone is eager to join Kevin Spacey in the actor and Old Vic artistic director's previously announced production of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow.
"She played the part of Karen in a production in LA earlier this year and is very keen to do it in London," said a source. Silverstone previously appeared alongside Greg Germann and Jon Tenney in the Geffen Playhouse's staging of the Hollywood satire.
Spacey, who recently starred on Broadway in A Moon for the Misbegotten after having done so at the Old Vic, will headline the London revival of David Mamet's 1988 play, which will run at the Old Vic from January through April of 2008 (specific production dates will be announced). He will "play greedy Hollywood producer Bobby Gould who, in planning his next film, is torn between making art versus money in a battle involving fellow producer Charlie Fox and a beautiful secretary," as described by Whatsonstage.com.
Silverstone, who has appeared on Broadway in The Graduate and regionally in Mamet's Boston Marriage, is known for films such as Clueless, Batman & Robin, Blast from the Past, The Crush, and Love's Labour's Lost. Tenney, one of the stars of "The Closer," has appeared in "Without a Trace," "Will & Grace," "Kristin," and more. He has appeared on Broadway in The Heiress and Off-Broadway in such plays as Tartuffe, Brighton Beach Memoirs and The Sustance of Fire. Germann, best known for his work on "Ally McBeal," has been seen in Talladega Nights, Friends with Money, "Desperate Housewives," and more. He has appeared onstage in plays for the Circle Repertory Company and Ensemble Studio Theatre.
