Stage Door Records has announced the Original London Cast Recording of Alan Price and Trevor Peacock's 1982 musical 'Andy Capp' is released on CD today, March 31st. The landmark CD release continues Stage Door's London cast album reissue series and commitment to preserve and celebrate British theatre scores from the past 50 years.
'Andy Capp' is an exuberant musical, with a delightful score by sixties pop icon Alan Price and actor / writer Trevor Peacock. The show conjures up the timeless dream world of work-shy, beer-swilling "Andy Capp", known the world over from Reg Smythe's long running cartoon strip in the Daily Mirror.
'Andy Capp' opened in June 1982 at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre starring Tom Courtenay as Andy, Val McLane as Flo, John Bardon as Chalkie and Alan Price as Geordie. The production transferred to London's Aldwych Theatre in September 1982 where it ran for 120 performances, winning positive reviews from the critics and a nomination for Best Musical at the 1982 Olivier Awards (then the S.W.E.T. Awards).
The much sought after 'Andy Capp' London cast album was recorded in October 1982 and has only been previously available on vinyl. Stage Door Records are pleased to debut the album on CD format, digitally remastered from the original master tapes.
