He also serves as Co-Founder and Music Director of the Lake George Music Festival in upstate New York, the premier musical arts festival in the region. Mr. Kalia has been hailed as a conductor who leads with "passionate intensity" and who is recognized as "one to watch." In addition to his current conducting roles, he is in consistent demand as a guest conductor with engagements including National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, Chicago Sinfonietta at Symphony Hall, Long Beach Symphony, and Boise Philharmonic.
"I am thrilled to be returning to Wheeling to conduct the Wheeling Symphony and their Symphony On Ice concert," says Music Director Finalist and conductor, Roger Kalia. "The holidays are about joy, reflection, and celebration, which is what this concert is all about. Highlights of the concert include traditional carols, including a holiday sing-along, specifically arranged for the Wheeling Symphony by the arranger Gary Fry, music from the classic movie "It's a Wonderful Life" by Dimitri Tiomkin, and selections from Duke Ellington's jazzy arrangement of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker." I had such an amazing time working with the orchestra and meeting people this past summer in Wheeling for our Fourth of July concert in the blazing heat, and I'm looking forward to cooling off with Symphony on Ice!"
