The Apollo Civic Theatre proudly presents the Tony, Grammy, and Oscar award winning musical Chicago. Written by John Kender and Fred Webb, Chicago is known for its stylistic choreography and sensational music. Journey back to 1920's Chicago, where the media exploits the justice system and glamorizes a new form of fame: the celebrity criminal. Based on real-life murder trials, this award winning Broadway show will take you on a musical explosion that is guaranteed to captivate the unforgettable crimes of the century. Chicago will run September 22 - October 1 at the Apollo, located at 128 East Martin Street.
Chicago's director, James Wright has been involved with the theatre for many years. "I started performing with the Youth Summer Theatre Workshop and I was hooked. Theatre taught me the importance of collaboration and communication; skills I carry with me wherever I go. One of my main goals for this production is to bring the cast together as an ensemble and encourage their artistic instincts. Just like the directors of the youth programs did for me."
Apollo Civic Theatre President, Michael Noll praises Wright's contribution. "I remember when James was in elementary school. He always wanted to do more: be in more scenes, rehearse more, be more involved. It's both hard and humbling to believe he is directing the season opener. The leadership both he and musical director Jeff Wine have given to this production is truly inspiring."
