Auditions for the comedy/drama Home Games, by Tom Ziegler, will be held on Sunday & Monday, January 29 & 30, at 7:00pm at the Old Opera House in Charles Town.
Mertle Mae Tucker supports herself, her dad, a bird and a blind cat working as a truck dispatcher. Dad sat the bench for one season with the Yankees and now he lives in a crazy twilight zone, walking around in his uniform and talking to the audience as he would to Casey Stengel. When Mertle is pursued by a young executive all their lives get complicated, touching and downright funny.
Tom Ziegler may be best known for his play Grace & Glorie which had a successful Off-Broadway run starring Estelle Parsons and Lucie Arnez in 1996. The play was later filmed for television by the Hallmark Hall of Fame and starred Gena Rowlands and Diane Lane. Tom coauthored this version, which won the “Christopher Award” presented to films and television which “affirm the highest values of the human spirit.” Home Games has a similar mix of comedy, drama and a gentle touch on the human spirit.
Home Games will be directed by Michael Saunders, who has directed several wonderful shows for the Old Opera House including Over the River and Through the Woods, Proof, Desperate Affection and last season’s hit comedy/thriller Desperate Affection.
Roles include 1 young woman, approximate age 25-35, 1 young man, approximate age 25-35, and 1 man, approximate age 55-70.
