This production, direct from its Broadway run, tells the spectacular true story of what inspired the lyrics to the much beloved "hymn of hymns," Amazing Grace. Watch as John Newton, a former slave ship owner, joins the abolition movement and begins a journey that inspired the anthem of hope and redemption that is so well known today.

John, facing uncertain times, is unsure whether to follow in his father's footsteps by taking over the family business or to follow his heart and continue his musical education, much to the dismay of his childhood sweetheart, Mary Catlett. Conflicted, John sets out on a journey with his slave, Thomas, accompanying him. Soon his ship is attacked by hooded abolitionists, who aid in the slaves' escape, leaving John humiliated. With his father, Captain Newton, angry at him and refusing to help, John directs his newfound rage toward aiding the abolitionist movement. During his darkest hour, John experiences a moment of self-realization which inspires a blazing hope that helps guide him home. A powerful tale of romance, rebellion, and ultimately redemption, Amazing Grace the Musical captures the essence of one of history's sweetest and most powerful sounds: freedom.
