Now in its 35th year, The In Series opens its season with Who’s The Boss?, a rollicking double bill of short comic opera, pairing Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona (in English) with Gilbert & Sullivan’s Trial By Jury. Edgy satire, humor, and the absurdity of human foibles will keep audiences laughing as writer-director Nick Olcott, conductor Joseph Walsh and an impish cast bring to life two jocular tales of feminine wiles. Pergolesi’s early (1733) comic opera, La Serva Padrona [The Servant Mistress], and Gilbert & Sullivan’s Victorian- era Trial By Jury turned the tables on the patriarchy long before women’s suffrage. With a world created by designers Jonathan D. Robertson (Scenic Elements), Katie McCreary (Lighting), and Robert Croghan (Costumes) and continuing the In Series commitment to DC area artists, the cast features established talents and exciting newcomers: Annie Gill, Andrew Adelsberger, Alex Alburqueque, Samual Keeler, Peter Brabson, Sean Pflueger, and Emma Gwinn in her In Series debut. The two works combined run one hour and fifty minutes, with one fifteen minute intermission.
