To Be Still is written by Crystal Adaway and directed by Catherine Tripp.
After her young daughter dies in a flash flood, Maya and her family struggle to find solace and meaning while holding very different beliefs. A poetic new drama about navigating grief and finding common ground in a contentious landscape.
The characters must accept the powerful river, cause of the tragedy and ribbon of mystery that leads them through rocky channels to forgiveness. The play incorporates artful visual projections and natural sounds that evoke memory, time, and place. To Be Still offers a conduit for understanding and communicating in difficult situations. Our society today is challenged in its ability to be civil and kind to people holding different opinions, whether religious, political, or social. This play production is timely: the performances will take place mere weeks before the 2024 Presidential and Maryland Senatorial elections.
To Be Still features Robin Covington, Annette Mooney, Zach Myers, Jaqueline Youm, Jessa Whitley-Hill, and Allegra Hatem.
Post-Show Discussions: Following the two Saturday matinees, we will hold post-show discussions with the audience. On Saturday, Oct. 19, we will present a panel discussion on "How Rituals Help Us Deal with Death & Grief." The panelists will speak from different perspectives about rituals and traditions, moderated by independent artist and "Death Cafe" leader, Patricia Dubroof. On Saturday, October 26, the post-show discussion will feature the playwright, director, and cast members, moderated by the producer, Nicole Burton.
