Carl Maria von Weber’s fairy tale opera gets new life at the In Series! With a story from the same legends that inspired Shakespeare, this opera gets a new English language send up in English worthy of the Bard himself. Nick Olcott adapts and directs this hilarious adaptation and Stanley Thurston conducts a fourteen piece chamber orchestra. The Fairy King, Oberon (tenor, Aurelio Dominguez) vows to write a new play to enchant his tempestuous wife, Titania. With the help of the magical Puck (mezzo, Katherine Fili) and a host of fairies; bring a story of magic, pirates, and mermaids to life. Oberon pulls the strings as heroic knight Huon (tenor, Sammy Huh) with his sidekick Sherasmin (baritone Alex Alburqueque), quest to save their damsels Rezia and Floria (soprano Cara Gonzales and mezzo Anamer Castrello) in braving a dastardly dragon, merciless mermaids, and treacherous pirates. Magical denizens of the ensemble include Elliot Matheny, Cornelius David, Nicholas Carratura, Emily Casey, Teresa Ferrara, and featuring Laynee Del Woodward and Louisa Waycott as the Mermaids.
Design team includes In Series resident scenic designer Jonathan Dahm Robertson, resident costume designer Donna Breslin, and guest designer Marianne Meadows, lighting.
The commissioning of the new English libretto for this adaptation was made possible in part by funding from the Reva and Dan Logan Foundation.
