La Verbena de la Paloma, the most famous and beloved Spanish zarzuela, is given new life in this bold reimagining set at Friendship Park, on the Tijuana side of the border between Mexico and the United States. This vibrant and triumphant piece affirms with music and poetry the power of the human spirit to transcend boundaries, featuring Mexican folk dance, and with Toms Bretns melodies brought to life by an ensemble inspired by traditional Mexican son jarocho music. Here, despite separation, cultures, lives, and spirits intersect, rise, and go on. Writer, Anna Deeny Morales, composer, Ulises Eliseo, and director Nick Olcott reveal the humanity of this powerful work.
