Aaron Copland’s hauntingly beautiful opera tells the coming-of-age story of a young girl from the Midwest. Originally commissioned by Rodgers & Hammerstein and inspired by Depression era photos and the writings of James Agee, this gem of “Opera Americana” is the centerpiece of the In Series’ “Made in America” season. A cast of DC area singers and local chamber orchestra bring this production under the direction of Steven Scott Mazzola and under the baton of Stanley Thurston. Scenic design by Osbel Susman Pena, lighting by Stefan Johnson, and costumes by Donna Breslin. Melissa Chavez, Elizabeth Mondragon, Scott Sedar, Andrew Pardini, Nick Carratura, and Arya Balian lead the cast.
