Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company announces the third production of its 37th Season, The Second City's Black Side of the Moon, which will run from November 12, 2016 through January 1, 2017.

The Second City renews its long-running, hugely-successful partnership with Woolly Mammoth by shining the light of satire on a nation eclipsed by its own divisiveness. In Black Side of the Moon, a cast of Chicago's funniest and most audacious African American sketch and stand-up artists deconstructs and reconstructs Blackness through comedy, illuminating the challenges of the past and the promises of the future. Where are we headed as a country? We'll see you on the Black Side of the Moon!

The Second City and Woolly Mammoth began their first collaboration during Season 29 (2009) with a production ofBarack Stars. Since then, Woolly and The Second City have brought humor, wit, laughter, and thought-provoking material to Washington D.C. audiences, creating a "second" home for the Chicago-based comedy troupe. Other productions include: The Wrath of Rahm (Season 30); A Girl's Guide to Washington Politics (Season 31); Spoiler Alert: Everybody Dies (Season 32); America All Better!! (Season 33); and Let Them Eat Chaos (Season 35). Throughout the years, this partnership has proven successful and relevant by exploring and exposing the realities of living in a polarizing political and social climate through sharp wit and comedy for the people of D.C. Black Side of the Moon will be no exception.

"Black Side of the Moon heralds a new direction for The Second City as they shine a spotlight on this rising generation of black comedians," says Woolly Mammoth Artistic Director Howard Shalwitz. "We are extremely excited to showcase these young performers and get to know and hear how they navigate their lives and the American political and cultural landscape through a mixture of stand-up and sketch comedy routines. This couldn't be a more fitting time to have audiences experiences this raw and honest snapshot of blackness in America."

Black Side of the Moon is directed by Billy Bungeroth, who returns to Woolly after having previously been involved as part of the writing/directing team for Let Them Eat Chaos. The ensemble members, all new to the Woolly stage, includeSonia Denis, Dave Helem, Dewayne Perkins, Torian Miller, Felonius Munk, and a sixth performer to be announced. Denis has been a featured comedian throughout Chicago, performing in The Chicago Women's Comedy Festival, Comedians You Should Know, and The Onion & A.V. Club's 2nd Annual 26th Annual Comedy Even. Helem toured with Hannibal Buress and Tony Rock and performed on the 2015 Oddball Comedy Festival. Perkins was the inaugural recipient of Second City's Bob Curry Fellowship; when he's not touring with The Second City, he creates original shows (such as Beyoncé Featuring Jesus) with his company Bleep That Bleep. Munk appears regularly on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on Comedy Central. To round out the cast, Miller is a member of Blood Oath, a sketch comedy and improv group, as well as The Cupid Players.
