We Happy Few Presents THE HORROR REP ImageCome and see the culmination of our Classics-in-Action horror trilogy and our first-ever performance in repertory! Just in time for Halloween, take your pick from our adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker's Dracula, or Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. With our customary fidelity to the text, immersive staging, high-energy tone-shifting performances, and custom cocktail pairings, join us as we explore Poe's lonesome paranoia, Stoker's deadly seductive hunt, and Shelley's arrogant despair in this unique theatrical event. The productions contain some scary content, but are appropriate for all ages. Each ticket includes a custom drink for our 21+ guests. Running time for each show is approximately an hour. The Horror Rep runs from October 18th to November 10th at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.

The Horror Rep is presented at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (545 7th St SE) located in the Eastern Market neighborhood, Washington, DC. Performances are from October 18th until November 10th. Individual performance dates are listed under each show description.

"Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world."

In a room of filthy creation, a young man stands alone at the turning point of human history: a remedy to the steady cold hand of Death. On the table lies his greatest promise, the product of all his hard work, the summation of his hopes and dreams. As Victor Frankenstein brings his impossible creation to life, he also opens a door to death, destruction, and regret.

In the latest installment of We Happy Few's Classics-in-Action series, we'll explore Mary Shelley's Frankenstein in an hour-long performance using her original text, live action, puppets, and a custom cocktail to bring to life the Frankenstein that you've always wanted to know.

FEATURING Navid Azeez, Paige O'Malley, Stefany Pesta, and Scott Whalen

"Listen to them - the children of the night. What music they make. You dwellers in the city cannot enter into the feelings of the hunter."

Experience this nightmarish achievement of storytelling as it drags you through the memorandum, newspaper clippings, and diary pages of a frantic vampire hunt. With faithful adherence to Stoker's text, immersive staging, and chilling, terrifying (and of course silly) performances, we bring the audience into the heart of Dracula's conflict: the intersection of predator and prey.

Dracula is best enjoyed with our custom drink pairing in hand. Bring Your Own Garlic.

FEATURING Meg Lowey, Kerry McGee, Jack Novak, Jon Reynolds

PERFORMANCES November 1 - 7:30pm November 2 - 7:30pm November 3 - 7:30pm November 9 - 7:30pm November 10 - 4pm

"I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell."

Follow us down the rabbit hole of Edgar Allan Poe's mind as we wind our way through his stories, his madness, and his haunts. This production is a site-specific piece uniquely tailored for each space it's performed in. We invite you to join Poe (all three of him!) for a first-hand look into the mind of the tortured genius. Using only Poe's words, we have whipped up a tale complete with music, poetry, and terrifying tales of death and destruction.

As with all of our Horror Rep performances, A Midnight Dreary is paired with a custom themed drink, to better put you in the mindset of our troubled author.

FEATURING Kerry McGee, Jon Reynolds, Alex Turner

ABOUT WE HAPPY FEW PRODUCTIONS

Founded in 2012, We Happy Few is committed to presenting productions that offer a unique perspective on classic texts. We Happy Few has established itself as one of Washington D.C.'s best small theatre companies (the DCist, 2015) by nurturing a creative environment that thrives on ensemble collaborations with some of the nation's most promising emerging theatre artists. WHF's flagship production of a six actor, 90-minute HAMLET premiered at the 2012 Capital Fringe Festival to great acclaim, exploring the idea that the entire play unfolded in the title character's mind. WHF's 2017 production of HENRY V was hailed as "a fascinating, resonant, and important new take on a known work" (Broadway World) and We Happy Few earned its first Helen Hayes Recommended play with 2018's PERICLES. DC Metro Theater Arts declared that We Happy Few's work is "a new approach to Shakespeare you will not want to miss."
