Virginia Stage Company will produce the world premiere of SCKBSTD, A New Musical by Bruce Hornsby as part of its 2010-2011 season, VSC Artistic Director Chris Hanna announced today. The production will be part of VSC's American Soil Project, the Company's multi-year new play development project that explores the cultural fabric of southeastern Virginia.

In its 32nd season as a LORT Theater Company, VSC will partner with Spiral Staircase LLC on
this production, the ?rst musical by multi-Grammy Award winner and Virginia native Hornsby,
along with fellow creators and Virginians Chip deMatteo and Clay McLeod Chapman.
"Hornsby's project has long been a dream in the making for us that is now becoming a
compelling reality," said Hanna. "We've planned a lineup of fantasy projects and
productions that are all miraculously coming together in our 32nd season."

Two world premieres, contemporary blockbusters and a traditional favorite are included in
VSC's dynamic season lineup:

The Diary of Anne Frank
By Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett,
Adapted by Wendy Kesselman
A young girl's hand-written journal lives today as one of the most personal and gripping
records of the Holocaust. Re?ecting Anne Frank's hopes and dreams as a maturing young
woman, this new adaptation speaks to a new generation.

The New Pink - An Implausible Comedy
by Chris Hanna
WORLD PREMIERE - When the "new economy" wipes out their retirement funds, a desperate
middle-class couple comes up with a wild plan to live out their golden years in comfort.

SCKBSTD, A New Musical by Bruce Hornsby
Music & Lyrics by Bruce Hornsby,
Additional Lyrics by Chip deMatteo, Book by Clay McLeod Chapman
WORLD PREMIERE - After a stranger moves into a small town and starts cruising the streets in
his Dodge, the rumors ?y. The next play in VSC's American Soil project, Hornsby's haunting
melodies and words continue the Company's exploration of life in southeastern Virginia.

The Last Five Years
Written and Composed by Jason Robert Brown
In this new musical, time is relative as a young couple's story plays out backwards and
forwards, from two different points of view. The rich musical score incorporates classical,
jazz, pop, Latin and rock styles, and has critics likening Brown to a present-day Sondheim.

Radio Golf
by August Wilson
Harmond Wilks could become Pittsburgh's ?rst African-American mayor -- unless secrets
from the past derail him. Radio Golf joins Fences and The Piano Lesson in August Wilson's
award-winning ten-play cycle exploring African-American life in the 20th Century.

A Christmas Carol
By Charles Dickens
HOLIDAY EXTRA - Ebenezer Scrooge and his travels with the ghosts of Christmas Past,
Present and Future reawaken the spirit of Christmas in all of us. This timeless tale is a
heartwarming tradition.
