TheatreWashington and Signature Theatre have announced the 6th annual Summer Hummer, a burlesque-style fundraiser featuring some of DC's best and hottest performers. Summer Hummer VI: Prom Night will be held Monday, August 28 at Signature Theatre with two exclusive one-night-only performances at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Tickets are $35 for General Admission or $100 for the VIP reserved section and are now on sale at SigTheatre.org or by calling 703 820 9771.

The Summer Hummer has become the Washington area's hottest and most provocative annual tradition. Directed by Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Gigi, Follies and Million Dollar Quartet) and Matthew Gardiner (Signature's Jelly's Last Jam and La Cage Aux Folles), it unites some of Washington's top theatre talent to raise critical funds for Taking Care of Our Own, a program of theatreWashington that provides emergency assistance to Washington-area theatre professionals. To date, Taking Care of Our Own has collected over $305,000 to help theatre professionals in need and has given out $109,000 in gifts since 2012.

"Signature Theatre is proud to host Summer Hummer VI: Prom Night," said Signature Theatre Artistic Director and co-director Eric Schaeffer. "It's a great night where the entire Washington Theatre community comes together to raise funds for Taking Care of Our Own - an emergency health fund - by performing two shows of naughty songs and dances. This year's Summer Hummer promises to be another crazy fun night complete with the crowning of our Prom King and Queen along with musical performances by Washington's most famous folks."

"Who can resist the Summer Hummer? Funny, bawdy songs with extraordinary singers and dancers that will knock your socks off," added TheatreWashington's President and CEO Amy Austin. "And it's all for the great community cause of supporting local theatre professionals in times of need. Actors have said that the Taking Care of Their Own fund saved their life -- they got financial support when they needed it most."

Featuring a company of more than 60 singers, dancers and strippers, this year's Summer Hummer will be emceed by DC favorite Tracy Lynn Olivera and includes performances by Shayna Blass, Felicia Curry, Natascia Diaz, Sherri L. Edelen, Will Gartshore, Ines Nassarra, DJ Petrosino, Nova Y. Payton, Maria Rizzo, Awa Sal Secka, Stephen Gregory Smith, Bobby Smith and many more. Audience members are encouraged to bring extra cash and spare change for original stripteases from The Jockstrap Prom Kings and Prom Pasties.

In addition to the Summer Hummer, theatreWashington's Taking Care of Our Own program is funded by a recurring Bucket Brigade, hosted by area theatres. On a rotating schedule, actors solicit donations at curtain then pass bright yellow buckets among the exiting crowd after performances at theaters throughout the metro-D.C. area. Together, the Summer Hummer and Bucket Brigade raised $68,317 in 2016.

Tickets for the Summer Hummer are available on sigtheatre.org at $35 for general admission and $100 for VIP reserved seating.
