The Dramathon, DC's one-of-a-kind theatrical event presented by The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts, returns for its seventh year in June. Some of the most recognizable names in DC theatre come together for a great cause on June 12 at 7:30 pm at Washington Stage Guild. Actors and playwrights donate their time along along with volunteer fundraisers for world premiere staged readings of short plays written just for that night. All proceeds generated by the event benefit The Theatre Lab's scholarship fund.
A roster of award-winning and nominated actors is on the bill again this year: Deb Gottesman, James J. Johnson, Michael Kramer, Deidra LaWan Starnes, Jefferson A. Russell, Michael Russotto, Kim Schraf, and Holly Twyford. They will be appearing in plays written by: Audrey Cefaly, Ally Currin, Annalisa Dias, Sarah Marshall, Elizabeth Pringle, Deb Sivigny, Elan Zafir, and Laura Zam.
The Dramathon is a signature event of The Theatre Lab's Senda Kid to Camp campaign. Volunteers raise money for the scholarship fund, and the top fundraisers earn spots on stage next to the professionals. All the actors, playwrights, and directors are graciously donating their time for the event, doing their part to help The Theatre Lab provide $110,000 in scholarship assistance to send 118 low-income children and teens to its award-winning summer acting camps and musical theatre institutes. Since 2006, more than $630,000 in scholarship funds has been raised to help send kids to camp.
There are limited spaces available for fundraisers. To take part or to get tickets ($15 each, or four for $45), visit theatrelab.org, or call 202-824-0449 for more information.
