Theater Alliance and VSA announce a co-production of Gretty Good Time by John Belluso at the H Street Playhouse, as part of the 2010 International VSA Festival.

Set in 1955, Gretty Good Time follows Gretty, a young woman with post polio paralysis, and her friend Hideko, a Hiroshima survivor, as they travel the globe of fantasy in search of peace.
"....high drama and sharp satire to questions of life and death and to dreams of altering the past."
- New York Times
John Belluso's plays include: A Nervous Smile (Actor's Theatre Of Louisville Humana Festival of New Plays), The Body of Bourne (Mark Taper Forum), Henry Flamethrowa (Trinity Repertory Company, Victory Gardens Theatre and Studio Dante), The Rules of Charity (Magic Theatre), Body Songs, created with legendary theatre director Joseph Chaikin (EuGene O'Neill Center). Mr. Belluso said that being disabled aided his understanding of what it took to be a playwright. "Finding the balance between participating and observing is really the key to being a good writer and a happy person," he told the San Francisco Observer in 2005. "My disability has done nothing but help me understand that process."

"I am honored" says Artistic Director, Paul Douglas Michnewicz, "that VSA has invited Theater Alliance to be a part of the 2010 VSA International Festival with this moving play that was originally produced at the Kennedy Center in 1998 with John's oversight. I spoke with him many times before his death about producing his plays at Theater Alliance and now we finally have the chance."

Gretty Good Time will be directed by Jeanette Buck (director of the film "Out of Season" and playwright of There Are No Strangers) and will feature Field Blauvelt, Daniel Eichner, Caitlin Gold, Rosemary Regan and Ann Stocking as Gretty. This production will be designed by Mark Anduss, Tony Cisek, Martha Mountain, Ivania Stack and DEb Thomas.

This co-production is part of the 2010 International VSA Festival. Other highlights of the Festival will include: Last Comic Standing's Josh Blue; Dame Evelyn Glennie, the Scottish virtuosic percussionist, performing with the world-famous National Symphony Orchestra; the jazz stylings of Diane Schuur; and R&B legend Patti LaBelle.
